Thailand Visa Run

A new Thailand visa run option: if you are an expat wanting to renew your Thailand visa, try the new Thailand visa run from Phuket to Langkawi, Malaysia and back for only $120!

A new option for Thailand visa runs is to hop over to the Langkawi beaches of Malaysia in less than 1 hour. Another reason why you would want to pop over to Malaysia is to do some duty free shopping at the duty-free island of Langkawi.

A 34 seater turbo propeller airplane will fly you in 40 minutes from Phuket to Langkawi with "Happy Air" for 4,000 baht or 100 bath a minute :-). 4000 Thai baht is about $120 USD.

This new Thailand visa run can be done in a single day with no hotel expense: the flights depart from Phuket on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 9am, arriving at Langkawi Island at 11am local time. Passengers can get their visas for Thailand stamped and take a return flight one hour later.

Who needs a Thailand visa run?

Foreigners who come to Thailand normally will get a 30 days arrival visa to Thailand in their passport. If you are willing to stay longer in Thailand, then you have to leave the country and return back again. The 10 day extension done in Bangkok immigration is a time consuming alternative costing already 1900 baht or half the price of the new Phuket - Langkawi Thailand visa run.

Thailand Visa Run
Alternative Thailand Visa Runs: Phuket visa run: 3 days to Penang or few hours to Ranong

Happy Air is currently flying between Phuket and Haad Yai and is in talks to fly between Haad Yai and Malaysia’s no frills Subang Airport: more for visiting Malaysia than just doing your Thailand visa run.

Pamper yourself with a 2 to 4 hour spa treatment at the Ishan Spa Langkawi.

Ishan Spa Langkawi

The Ishan Spa is privately tucked away and only reachable after a long walk up the stairs. Being high up you can feel the cool breeze of the sea whilst you relax in a 3 hour spa treatment like The Orchid Spa Package, comprising of:

  • full body scrub with Neem leaves

  • fresh turnip with banana leaf wrap

  • revitalizing facial and

  • a lovely full body relaxation massage

When you have 1 extra hour to indulge, try the Plumeria Spa package including:

  • a traditional Malaysian coconut oil scalp massage

  • a hair treatment with coconut milk

  • a full body scrub with black rice

  • the fresh herbs wrap with banana leaf

  • a floral bath before or after your massage

  • a full body aromatherapy massage

  • the most welcome rejuvenating facial and mask and

  • some foot pampering

I went for this full throttle Plumeria Spa package: when you want to pamper yourself so far away in Langkawi, better pamper yourself in the best way ever.

What I love about this Malaysian Spa is the use of fresh ingredients, herbs and spices in the homemade coconut and black rice body scrubs. Also the aromatherapy oils used are specially formulated by Ishan Spa Langkawi. It gives this spa a much more personal touch than just being offered to choose between the usual lavender or other aromatherapy oils used in most Resort Spas.

The other plus of the Ishan Spa Langkawi Spa is that right after your massage you can walk into your own private flower bath enjoying the serenity of the forest.

The Ishan Spa Langkawi offers complimentary pick up and return to your hotel, so you can stay in any Langkawi hotel and still enjoy a top spa treatment in the Ishan Spa Langkawi.

Doutzen Kroes bikini

Sexy Doutzen Kroes bikini pictures: front and back. When in doubt: a simple two-piece bikini is still the hottest look on the beach.

Doutzen Kroes Swimsuit

Doutzen Kroes swimsuit back

Tips for choosing your perfect bathing suit

Now if you don't have a perfect body like Doutzen Kroes - I for one am way too short for my liking -, follow the following tips to look your perfect best on the beach or near the pool of your favorite spa resort:

  • high cut bikini
when you are short like I am, high cut bikini bottoms make your legs look longer and elongate your figure, boy leg pants however will give the opposite effect.
    doutzen kroes in bikini
Doutzen Kroes in bikini with boy leg pants

  • one pieces bathing suits with the right pattern also can elongate your figure a bit. they are my favorite as they cover lots of skin, which is a smart choice in the tropics. Slim, athletic figures also fit extremely well in a one piece swimsuit..

  • when you have a curvy, hour-glass figure and a big bust, you should go for halter-neck bikinis.

Always remember that skimpy, daring, sexy swimwear mostly is designed not to be used on the beach, but more to make a fashion statement next to the pool, not even inside the pool!

And as you must have noticed: since she has such long legs, it's difficult to show you Doutzen Kroes bikini pictures with a high cut bottom. Be like the models: only wear the swimsuit that matches your figure!

The tsunami in Thailand

Even 5 years after, the tsunami in Thailand still haunts me. Not to mention the thousands of restless spirits that are still haunting the coasts of Phuket and Phi Phi Island.

For western tourists, reading the above must be kind of funny, but for me, being deeply rooted in Asian traditions, we can feel that something is not quite right in Phuket.

I was lucky: 2 days before the tsunami in Thailand (December 26th), I was transferred to go and work in another of our resorts in Malaysia.

Dedicating this post to all the victims and families of the Tsunami in Thailand 5 years ago, may their souls find peace.

Rawi Warin Resort and Spa

Just enjoying heaven at the Rawi Warin Resort and Spa in Koh Lanta, Thailand. But I am sure you want to see more pictures than just the cool drink the cool waiter brought me :-)

Rawi warin resort & spa

Well, if you want to turn into a lobster - like most westerners who come to Thailand - , the Rawi Warin Resort & Spa beach is ideal: no trees to cover you and quite private, so you have the sun all to yourself. Don't even think that we Asians join in the tanning :-)

Rawi Warin resort

The Spa treatment in the Rawi Warin resort is pretty rejuvenating, just that for my personal liking, I rather get a spa indoors. I know: you have a view of the beach when getting a spa... Now I don't know about you, but I always close my eyes when getting a spa treatment, so no need for the beach and the unpredictable stormy weather during rain season. When booking, do ask the hotel about the weather and the low season, as in the low season, island life is really low key!

Rawi Warin

Saving the best for last: the Rawi Warin infinity pool: the best picture I took from an infinity pool so far :-)

Seriously, I find the Rawi Warin a bit overpriced for what you get, especially the spa treatment should be cheaper compared to other resorts in Thailand. The resort also caters more to families than to romantic couples or singles. Do book a chalet near the beach unless you are like me and don't mind the extra walk to the chalets near the hill side. As you can see: I can blog: there is Internet connection, but I even have to pay for that: very sad as who doesn't want to do a quick update to their friends and family online?

Pimalai Resort and Spa Koh Lanta

Enjoy another infinity pool, this time in the Pimalai Resort and Spa Koh Lanta, Thailand. For those who speak a mouthful of Thai language, you know that Koh is the Thai word for island. Koh Lanta is a largely unspoiled, very quiet island and natural travel destination in Thailand with of course some beautiful beaches and great for diving as well. Ideal diving in Koh Lanta Thailand is from November to April.

Pimalai Resort and Spa

The Pimalai Resort and Spa Koh Lanta blends in the environment of the hilly land with direct access to a 900 meters lovely sandy beach, reachable by bus and boat in about 2hrs from Krabi International Airport. Don't expect a big crowd that wants to endure this amount of travel time in order to indulge in the luxury and peace of the Pimalai Resort and Spa. Yet there are 121 accommodations available on the resort and not one but 2 of these infinity swimming pools.

Unless you want to crack a few bottles in their wine cellar, for normal tourists there are lots of other activities than enjoying the spa - offering lots of different oriental therapeutic treatments using Thai herbal and natural products - or relaxing on the beach: canoeing, sailing, scuba diving, bicycling, Thai cooking classes, trekking and even playing tennis, although I find the weather way too hot to enjoy an outdoor tennis in Thailand.

So if you are looking for luxury in paradise, add the Pimalai Resort and Spa Koh Lanta on your list of places to go before you die.

Cheap Hotel Penang

A good and cheap hotel in Penang to recommend is the Hotel Mingood. You pay about $20 for a double room in this budget hotel which is well situated within walking distance of lots of Penang's sightseeing, restaurants and markets. Reason why it's a cheap hotel is because the rooms are old. Nevertheless it comes with airco and a TV that can receive BBC.

Penang's beaches are nice, not as exotic nor idyllic as other beaches in Malaysia. Main reason why you should go to Malaysia is because not only received Penang a world heritage status, it is especially a food paradise. Reason is because Penang has a rich multicultural history with Chinese, Malay, Indian, and European influences. And Penang won't be spoiled by the country's biggest political party which has no interest in making Penang the pearl of the orient.

Always check out the cheap hotel packages of the budget airlines traveling to Penang. We already mentioned that Malaysia's budget airline AirAsia gives attractive packages for a cheap hotel stay in Penang's Shangri La Rasa Sayang's beach resort:

Terengganu

Backpackers wholove to travel off the beaten track: be aware that there are cholera outbreaks in Terengganu and Kelantan and that traveling by road towards the Thai border can be impossible due to road closures due to the current floods.

However, if you are spending your holidays in beach resorts like the Coral Redang Island Resort, all should be fine... except for the enormous downfalls of rain this year. If you wonder why you managed to get a cheap holiday package for Terengganu or other resorts at the East coast in Malaysia, it is because it's raining season there.

However, if you love the slow paste of island life and you are keen to experience how the tropical rain can bring people together, or you just want to experience what it is like to take a shower during tropical rains, booking a cheap travel to Malaysia's east coast in Terengganu is an ideal value for money option at this time of the year. Do know that the sea can be rough and snorkeling or diving tours could be postponed or cancelled all together.

We just don't advice you to go off the beaten track, unless you can't be bothered with cholera nor closed roads in Terengganu, Malaysia.

Ketupat Sotong

Terengganu Ketupat Sotong: a must try when you are in Terengganu or surely when you venture far away from Kuala Lumpur in the states of Sabah and Sarawak. For that matter: do try all the food that looks yummies and you never saw before in Malaysia or elsewhere in the world!

One such thing to try in Terengganu is the wrapped rice in squid called "Ketupat Sotong". Originally, a ketupat is a type of rice dumpling wrapped in palm leaves. Yet the Terengganu ketupat is wrapped inside squid or sotong as it is called in the Malaysian Language.

A must try not because it will be your most delicious meal ever, there are much more delicious dishes in Malaysia for you to enjoy, but try this Terengganu Ketupat Sotong for the original idea of stuffing a squid with rice.

Coral Redang Island Resort

Enjoy lazy beach life at the Coral Redang Island Resort. Just remember that it's rainy season now, so you can get wet. Add to that global warming is adding more ice from the north and south pole into the atmosphere, and you know rain is becoming a major problem. Hence the huge amount of floods this year in Terengganu.

Other than that, getting to Redang is not easy. Which is good news for saying: you won't find that many tourists in Redang. The Shahbandar Jetty will take more than an our to reach the main port of Redang, where you need to switch to a smaller water taxi which will take you to Coral Redang Island Resort in about 20 minutes.

Note that there is no TV and no coffee maker in the beach chalets, so anything you need you have to find in the restaurant or call for the more than efficient room service.

Since the Coral Redang Island Resort is situated within Malaysia's premier marine park sanctuary, do sign up for some snorkeling or diving tours or just relax under the palms trees at the beach.

Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel

Except for their private beach, there is nothing else positive that I can say about the Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel.

Just came back from Penang to have a viewing of a new launched property with sea view. Since the building is only in its initial stage, I thought: let me book close by the viewing in the Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel: at least experience what the see view is like... Well, I love the sea view and bought the property :-)

As much as I like the apartment I just bought, as much do I dislike the Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel. I had to wake up very early to catch a flight to Penang and finally arriving there at midday, I was both very hungry and very tired. the last thing you need then is standing in front of the reception where the girl trying to assist her is so slow that her colleague meanwhile already checked in 4 more people. How bad can you get?

Very bad: food was not included and the food in the restaurant (fried noodles) was about 5 times more expensive than what I pay for in a better coffee shop, yet the taste was 5 times worse than what I eat in a coffee shop. Ok, maybe I was just in a grumpy mood aggravated by the slow check in at the reception. Other than that, the TV doesn't give you CNN and I don't know why the Internet gives this hotel a 3 start rating, as I can hardly find 2.

Again one (and for me only) positive point of the Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel: the hotel has a private beach and you can book a room with a sea view.

Ubud Hanging Gardens

As close as you can get to heaven are the Ubud Hanging Gardens in Bali, Indonesia. If you can afford to buy an airplane ticket, then you save the same amount of money and have a 3 nights stay in the hanging gardens in Ubud: the staff will address you personally which is just an example of how you will be pampered for your money. Maybe you could say they are too interested in what you are planning on each of your days :-)

Now you don't have to stay 24/7 in your hotel, once you are in Ubud you should do what the locals do and taste their famous "Ubud babi guling" which translates to 'roasted suckling pig'. And for those that love to eat pork meat, Bali has it!

Ubud Babi Guling
Ubud babi guling: Bali's famous roasted suckling pig

First you need to know that you will end up with only tiny slices of the pig on your plate. Secondly it is eaten in markets and road stores, so it's a far cry away of the luxury you are indulging yourself in the Ubud Hanging Gardens.

To escape from the luxury and the infinity pool of the Ubud Hanging Gardens, do see the countryside with the Banyan Tree cycling tour. You will appreciate it even more when you schedule a spa after you have been walking into the village and cycling around.

spa village resort tembok

Go back to nature and 5 stars in the Spa Village Resort Tembok in Bali, Indonesia.

2 things I love about this resort:

  • the pool that seems to overflow in the sky

  • the organic food served in the restaurant.

I mean: if you indulge your body to the luxury of a spa but 1 hour later start stuffing your rejuvenated body with the same old unhealthy fast food and fuzzy drinks... I sure you get the picture.

That's why I loved to eat in their restaurant as they focus on fresh, local, sustainable organic ingredients. And when you see that the fishermen keep their boats at only 50 meters away from the Spa Village Resort Tembok, you know you are not eating frozen fish that you could eat in any other hotel anywhere else in the world. Having spent more than a week here, it's just wonderful to be able to taste a new and fresh menu each and every evening and to enjoy a free yoga session each and every morning.

novotel yogyakarta

Enjoy your stay at the Novotel Yogyakarta at a discount thanks to the 3-day Super Sale on 1 million hotel rooms at amazing rate across Asia Pacific that has been extended for 24 hrs until 30 Oct 09: read all about it at Accor Hotels 3-Day Super Sale Asia Pacific.

Novotel Yogyakarta Indonesia

Novotel Yogyakarta

The Novotel Hotel Yogyakarta is about 15 minutes from the airport and from Jalan Malioboro: the main shopping street in Yogyakarta. This makes the hotel ideal for business travelers, which means as a traveler you will be ensured to get service when you ask for it and classy accommodation, including transport-booking facilities to the many tourist sites in Yogyakarta as well as a enjoying the small yet cozy swimming pool and a good meal in the restaurant. A savvy traveler understands that when transport-booking facilities are available, you won't be able to get to tourist destinations or decent eateries by just strolling around.

Yes, you read it right: you can get service when you ask for it. As in many hotels in Yogyakarta or hotels in Malaysia, there is no standard quality control imposed by the hotel management. Once for example you don't find complementary tea bags, you need to call reception, point out the problem and only then you will get what you would expect to get from a 4 star hotel. A hotel with quality control has a simple checklist to check whether or not tea bags are provided or not, it's not difficult to implement, yet it's more exception than rule.

If you want to have a silent room in the Novotel Yogyakarta do ask for it in advance and do check out the noise once you arrive. If they put you next to the lobby or above the swimming pool, insist to get transferred to another room. As stated above; you will get what you ask in the Novotel Yogyakarta but make sure you do ask and state your needs!

As with all YTL hotels, you get the best value for money to stay at Pangkor Laut Resort when ordering an all inclusive package: that includes free exotic fruit cocktails brought to you on the beach of Emerald Bay!

If you just want to enjoy a massage in paradise without staying in the resort, you can take the ferry that carries passengers directly from Malaysia's mainland Lumut to the Pangkor Laut Resort Malaysia.

Tanjong Jara resort Terengganu

Not mentioned in all travel guides is the luxury Tanjong Jara Resort Terengganu on the east coast of Malaysia. From the same builders of tropical paradise Pangkor Laut Resort Malaysia.

This is undoubtedly the best resort on Malaysia's east coast: remember that the East Coast of Malaysia is a Muslim stronghold that frowns upon massages and bikinis. Therefore do dress up "politely" wearing a sarong to cover your legs and make sure to cover your top when strolling around in Terengganu. Once you are on the beach of in the pools of the Tanjong Jara Resort Terengganu, you can behave and wear as you would do in any other resort of the globe.

Kuala Terengganu is a small rural town on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is easily reachable by Malaysian airlines and used to serve as a gateway to reach Pulau Redang. You can also take a 4 to 5 hour taxi drive from Kuala Lumpur if you don't feel like flying due to the H1N1 virus.

Do leave your resort to stroll around in the every day life markets and shops in Kuala Terengganu town for local produce and food items as well as hand-drawn batik cloths and local handicraft. Prices will be much cheaper than buying similar products in the resort.

tanjung jara resort terengganu
Tanjung Jara Resort Terengganu : Reception Spa Village

Apart from strolling around and experience life of the locals, do enjoy a massage in the Spa Village of the Tanjong Jara Resort Terengganu. Just make sure to ask for a soft or hard massage, so the Spa can give you a masseur according to your preference.

shangri la rasa sayang penang

Since budget airlines flies to Penang Malaysia, it is offering discounted hotel packages for the best of all luxury hotels near the beach of Penang: the Shangri La Rasa Sayang Penang. To be even more pampered, do make your hotel
reservation during off peak holidays.

Do make sure when booking your Shangri La Penang, you don't end up in the Golden Sands Shangri La Penang wing but make sure you get a booking for the Shangri La Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa. Why?

shangri la rasa sayang resort
Shangri La Rasa Sayang Resort

Because in the all inclusive package, you even get a glass of champagne to start a delicious dinner! Rooms and bathrooms are huge and Ocean wing premier rooms give you a bath on the balcony with a big sitting area. And did I mention free soft drinks or ea all day long brought to you to the beach? Paradise!

This is the first hotel where I didn't have to bring my own pillow. I am a fuzzy sleeper but the Shangri La Rasa Sayang Resort offers a "pillow menu" 4 different types of pillows, which I tried out all :-)

The Rasa Sayang Resort Spa gives honeymooners a free massage, something I need to keep in mind when I marry :-) Honeymooners also get a bottle of champagne and a special flower and cake arrangement to their room.

You will love the Shangri La Rasa Sayang sauna and steamroom area as well as free yoga, Thai Chi and tennis lessons. After all that exercise, I of course signed up for the cooking lessons, not that I have any complaints about the Shangri La Rasa Sayang Resort Ferinngi Grill serving 5 star world class food.

For sightseeing in Penang and Georgetown, do use the free bus of the Shangri La Rasa Sayang Penang Resort!

Tanjung Rhu Resort Langkawi

Don't judge a book on its cover: the Tanjung Rhu Resort Langkawi does offer an amazing all inclusive package in an secluded location amidst natural wilderness, mangroves, a beautiful white sand beach and stunning islands that are within easy reach. Just the building of the hotel doesn't look at all inviting for resort travelers.

The Tanjung Rhu Resort Langkawi can get a bit crowded with 135 air conditioned rooms, so do visit in the off peak holiday season. The rooms are extremely spacious with timber floors and large windows to take advantage of the tropical breeze and views. Being in the tropics in Malaysia, don't expect the breeze to be that cooling though.

To enjoy cheap holidays in Langkawi, do opt for the all inclusive package.

The Tanjung Rhu Resort Langkawi offer you a huge choice of body treatments at their Spa which comprises a series of individual pavilions set amidst tropical vegetation and offering stunning views of the sea and landscape. You have the option to have your treatment in one of the enhanced Pavilions which are set within individual private gardens.

The latter makes the Tanjung Rhu Resort Langkawi a choice of preference for those seeking a truly romantic and relaxed ambience, recommended for weddings and honeymooners.

  • what not to do

  • when to do it

  • where to go and

  • do it.

  • Get your bags, your bearings, your Thai girl book and prepare for your biggest journey. (Hey, Thailand is not as hot as you think :-)

Step three: Get out and meet and greet people. Although it's hot, make sure you wear your best clothes. In Thailand it pays to look good. Thai girls like their men to be clean, fresh, and attractive. No kidding.

Step four: Just be you and be adventurous. Expect lots of questions. The Thai girls want to speak and learn English with you. You'll have a great, precious, remarkable time.

Step five: That's it, all done. Remember though to keep light-hearted. Smile! Thai women like to have fun. Don't be 'too serious' but do show respect to the things that are important to them. The key word is enjoyment. Have fun and dating will become a natural consequence.

blue penguins oamaru

Visit these cute and tiny blue penguins in Oamaru, that's in New Zealand driving along the East Coast.

If you can fork out the money and love to do some sun bathing as well, arrange yourself a cruise to Galapagos and admire the rare Galapagos penguins.

If you can even fork out more money, visit the penguins in Antarctica. But be prepared of the smell, because these are huge penguin colonies and due to the freezing cold, their dung doesn't evaporate that quickly.

If you like beaches with stunning nature, self drive and value for money, then visit the East coast of New Zealand. We did a self drive on the South Island from east to west and back to the east coats and were happily surprised to see a little colony of little blue penguins in Oamaru NZ :-)

where is bali

Bali is where I will spend my next 2 weeks holiday. Actually, it's way too quite for comfort here in our Phuket Spa resort, so I am voluntarily taking my vacation and return to my home-base in one of the Spa resorts in Bali.

No, I am not going to enjoy massages and la 'dolce far niente', I am just going to continue working there.

Then it will be up to the management in Phuket whether they have enough tourists to need me back or whether I can be more useful in our Bali spa resort.

So where is Bali Island?

Bali is in Indonesia. It's one of the 17,000 islands. Bali is 145 km (90 miles) long and 80 km (50 miles) wide. Bali is situated just east of the island of Java and west of Lombok.

Most of Bali's 3 million people are Hindu, which for me makes it an ideal spa destination. But that's just because I love the Hindu way of every day making small offerings to the Gods. It keeps you in sink with nature and the creation in a beautiful matter.

And it beats the Balinese dances and Gamelan orchestra performances that are so over the top made for the tourist. But hey, if you like that, then don't listen to my preferences :-)

Bali offers something for everybody, just hire a driver and a guide and get around the places you want to see.

The expensive Bali resorts and spas have a tide security, as Bali is where the Bali bombings took place years ago :-(

four seasons resort great exuma

The Four Seasons Resort Great Exuma - a well known luxury resort in the Bahamas - is shutting down for business May 26.

Just like our resort, resorts on paradise island Bahamas are struggling to keep the high end tourists coming. Like during any economical recession: high end tourists tie their belts and seek less expensive beach travel destinations like Malacca Beach in Malaysia.

We do have to point out that if you look around on the Internet, you can still find bargains to visit the high end resorts for a not so high end price!

US is struck the hardest though and Bahamas vacations are visibly on the decline. That's why the Four Seasons Resort Great Exuma at Emerald Bay, which only opened in 2003 and had troubles paying its debts in 2007, will close May 26.

This resort is part of a 500-acre (202-hectare) development that includes a marina and golf course.

The good news is that there already is new ownership in place and the government is helping the search for investment to acquire and reopen the hotel.

The bad news is that although there are plenty of cheap and good Bahamas vacation packages on offer, most big Bahamas resorts have announced layoffs as the world economic crisis slashes tourism across the Caribbean:

Westin and Sheraton Grand Bahama Our Lucaya Resort

For example: In January, the Westin and Sheraton Grand Bahama Our Lucaya Resort laid off 181 employees, which is about 1 fifth of its beachfront work force.

atlantis resort paradise island bahamas

Meanwhile the sprawling Atlantis Resort Paradise Island Bahamas has dismissed about 800 workers this season.

Baha Mar Resorts

Baha Mar Resorts Ltd. however laid off only 80 employees at two Bahamas locations.

Reason why they are doing better is that they got fresh capital from Chinese investors, who are also bringing their workers over. Since traveling is a world wide business, no need to jump up and down when China brings over a Chinese workforce. Better that than no more resorts in the Bahamas.

Yoga positions for beginners

If I am not busy, I try every morning to join the yoga positions for beginners session at our resort. It's free for every guest anyway :-)

It's fun, relaxing and one of the biggest benefits of yoga is that it wakes me up to start a great new day!

I have to admit the first time I joined in, the basic yoga poses were quite tiring and I managed to stretch muscles I never felt before... And it is more tiring than I expected for exercises that are done on 1 and the same spot. I mean, we are not running, not even jumping up and down, just stretching and "twisting" our bodies...

If you do yoga in the tropics, make sure you do it on a place in the shade like in the picture. Because even in the morning, it's never a good idea to be in the sun for more than an hour, let alone doing all the yoga exercises.

Also make sure to wear special yoga clothing... No need to buy yoga clothing from Lululemon : the most popular Yoga clothing brand that I know of. Just wear something not too warm and not to tight as like I said, you need to stretch in positions you never held possible. And no, they don't practice naked yoga here, so make sure to wear something :-)

Remember you are in for an eastern class of yoga to purify and strengthen your physical and spiritual body. You are not there for a western class of showing off the most fashionable commercialised clothes!

Make sure to bring a towel to wipe your face in case you start sweating (I see some people wearing headbands as well). Also don't plan an excursion that would start right after your yoga class, because you would love to take a shower first!

Again lots of Japanese tourists are taking up the yoga positions for beginners session, which means that our yoga instructor explains the moves both in English and Japanese.

Basic yoga poses

Don't panic when you can't do the basic yoga pose from the picture above. Remember you are on holiday and just do the yoga session for the fun of it. The instructor will make sure you are warmed up very well and you only stretch as far as you want or can do.

If all this would embarrass you, you can always sit down at the back where nobody will see you :-) But if you are as small as me, you will only sit at the back for 5 minutes and then quickly change position to the front row in order to see clearly how the instructor is performing his basic yoga poses. Nobody will be really paying attention to you unless some male tourists who are looking for a date ...

If you want to experience the true spirit of Asian, in stead of going to those cultural show with dingdong bells, sign up for a yoga positions for beginners session!
