Thailand Visa Run

A new Thailand visa run option: if you are an expat wanting to renew your Thailand visa, try the new Thailand visa run from Phuket to Langkawi, Malaysia and back for only $120!

A new option for Thailand visa runs is to hop over to the Langkawi beaches of Malaysia in less than 1 hour. Another reason why you would want to pop over to Malaysia is to do some duty free shopping at the duty-free island of Langkawi.

A 34 seater turbo propeller airplane will fly you in 40 minutes from Phuket to Langkawi with "Happy Air" for 4,000 baht or 100 bath a minute :-). 4000 Thai baht is about $120 USD.

This new Thailand visa run can be done in a single day with no hotel expense: the flights depart from Phuket on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 9am, arriving at Langkawi Island at 11am local time. Passengers can get their visas for Thailand stamped and take a return flight one hour later.

Who needs a Thailand visa run?

Foreigners who come to Thailand normally will get a 30 days arrival visa to Thailand in their passport. If you are willing to stay longer in Thailand, then you have to leave the country and return back again. The 10 day extension done in Bangkok immigration is a time consuming alternative costing already 1900 baht or half the price of the new Phuket - Langkawi Thailand visa run.

Alternative Thailand Visa Runs: Phuket visa run: 3 days to Penang or few hours to Ranong

Happy Air is currently flying between Phuket and Haad Yai and is in talks to fly between Haad Yai and Malaysia’s no frills Subang Airport: more for visiting Malaysia than just doing your Thailand visa run.

Pamper yourself with a 2 to 4 hour spa treatment at the Ishan Spa Langkawi.

Ishan Spa Langkawi

The Ishan Spa is privately tucked away and only reachable after a long walk up the stairs. Being high up you can feel the cool breeze of the sea whilst you relax in a 3 hour spa treatment like The Orchid Spa Package, comprising of:

  • full body scrub with Neem leaves

  • fresh turnip with banana leaf wrap

  • revitalizing facial and

  • a lovely full body relaxation massage

When you have 1 extra hour to indulge, try the Plumeria Spa package including:

  • a traditional Malaysian coconut oil scalp massage

  • a hair treatment with coconut milk

  • a full body scrub with black rice

  • the fresh herbs wrap with banana leaf

  • a floral bath before or after your massage

  • a full body aromatherapy massage

  • the most welcome rejuvenating facial and mask and

  • some foot pampering

I went for this full throttle Plumeria Spa package: when you want to pamper yourself so far away in Langkawi, better pamper yourself in the best way ever.

What I love about this Malaysian Spa is the use of fresh ingredients, herbs and spices in the homemade coconut and black rice body scrubs. Also the aromatherapy oils used are specially formulated by Ishan Spa Langkawi. It gives this spa a much more personal touch than just being offered to choose between the usual lavender or other aromatherapy oils used in most Resort Spas.

The other plus of the Ishan Spa Langkawi Spa is that right after your massage you can walk into your own private flower bath enjoying the serenity of the forest.

The Ishan Spa Langkawi offers complimentary pick up and return to your hotel, so you can stay in any Langkawi hotel and still enjoy a top spa treatment in the Ishan Spa Langkawi.

Doutzen Kroes bikini

Sexy Doutzen Kroes bikini pictures: front and back. When in doubt: a simple two-piece bikini is still the hottest look on the beach.

Doutzen Kroes Swimsuit

Tips for choosing your perfect bathing suit

Now if you don't have a perfect body like Doutzen Kroes - I for one am way too short for my liking -, follow the following tips to look your perfect best on the beach or near the pool of your favorite spa resort:

  • high cut bikini
when you are short like I am, high cut bikini bottoms make your legs look longer and elongate your figure, boy leg pants however will give the opposite effect.

  • one pieces bathing suits with the right pattern also can elongate your figure a bit. they are my favorite as they cover lots of skin, which is a smart choice in the tropics. Slim, athletic figures also fit extremely well in a one piece swimsuit..

  • when you have a curvy, hour-glass figure and a big bust, you should go for halter-neck bikinis.

Always remember that skimpy, daring, sexy swimwear mostly is designed not to be used on the beach, but more to make a fashion statement next to the pool, not even inside the pool!

And as you must have noticed: since she has such long legs, it's difficult to show you Doutzen Kroes bikini pictures with a high cut bottom. Be like the models: only wear the swimsuit that matches your figure!

The tsunami in Thailand

Even 5 years after, the tsunami in Thailand still haunts me. Not to mention the thousands of restless spirits that are still haunting the coasts of Phuket and Phi Phi Island.

For western tourists, reading the above must be kind of funny, but for me, being deeply rooted in Asian traditions, we can feel that something is not quite right in Phuket.

I was lucky: 2 days before the tsunami in Thailand (December 26th), I was transferred to go and work in another of our resorts in Malaysia.

Dedicating this post to all the victims and families of the Tsunami in Thailand 5 years ago, may their souls find peace.

Rawi Warin Resort and Spa

Just enjoying heaven at the Rawi Warin Resort and Spa in Koh Lanta, Thailand. But I am sure you want to see more pictures than just the cool drink the cool waiter brought me :-)

Rawi warin resort & spa

Well, if you want to turn into a lobster - like most westerners who come to Thailand - , the Rawi Warin Resort & Spa beach is ideal: no trees to cover you and quite private, so you have the sun all to yourself. Don't even think that we Asians join in the tanning :-)

Rawi Warin resort

The Spa treatment in the Rawi Warin resort is pretty rejuvenating, just that for my personal liking, I rather get a spa indoors. I know: you have a view of the beach when getting a spa... Now I don't know about you, but I always close my eyes when getting a spa treatment, so no need for the beach and the unpredictable stormy weather during rain season. When booking, do ask the hotel about the weather and the low season, as in the low season, island life is really low key!

Rawi Warin

Saving the best for last: the Rawi Warin infinity pool: the best picture I took from an infinity pool so far :-)

Seriously, I find the Rawi Warin a bit overpriced for what you get, especially the spa treatment should be cheaper compared to other resorts in Thailand. The resort also caters more to families than to romantic couples or singles. Do book a chalet near the beach unless you are like me and don't mind the extra walk to the chalets near the hill side. As you can see: I can blog: there is Internet connection, but I even have to pay for that: very sad as who doesn't want to do a quick update to their friends and family online?

Pimalai Resort and Spa Koh Lanta

Enjoy another infinity pool, this time in the Pimalai Resort and Spa Koh Lanta, Thailand. For those who speak a mouthful of Thai language, you know that Koh is the Thai word for island. Koh Lanta is a largely unspoiled, very quiet island and natural travel destination in Thailand with of course some beautiful beaches and great for diving as well. Ideal diving in Koh Lanta Thailand is from November to April.

Pimalai Resort and Spa

The Pimalai Resort and Spa Koh Lanta blends in the environment of the hilly land with direct access to a 900 meters lovely sandy beach, reachable by bus and boat in about 2hrs from Krabi International Airport. Don't expect a big crowd that wants to endure this amount of travel time in order to indulge in the luxury and peace of the Pimalai Resort and Spa. Yet there are 121 accommodations available on the resort and not one but 2 of these infinity swimming pools.

Unless you want to crack a few bottles in their wine cellar, for normal tourists there are lots of other activities than enjoying the spa - offering lots of different oriental therapeutic treatments using Thai herbal and natural products - or relaxing on the beach: canoeing, sailing, scuba diving, bicycling, Thai cooking classes, trekking and even playing tennis, although I find the weather way too hot to enjoy an outdoor tennis in Thailand.

So if you are looking for luxury in paradise, add the Pimalai Resort and Spa Koh Lanta on your list of places to go before you die.
